Laya
Laya wasn’t designed to catch attention. It came together slowly, what stood out to us was how Laya works in classical dance. An attempt to bring rhythm back into the everyday saree.
Drawn from the idea of Laya in classical dance, where contrast meets coordination, this edit brings together two or multiple distinct design/ colors in each piece. One half carries checks, the other remains plain. Borders, pleats, and pallu are all intentionally placed to highlight this interplay.
Each saree carries multiple colours. One with checks. One plain or vice versa, we weren't looking to create contrast for effect. We were looking for balance. The pleats, borders, and pallu aren't mundane. They’re placed the way rhythm holds a beat measured, intentional.
This isn’t a rework of Madurai Sungudi. We didn’t feel the need to change what already has weight. I just gave it space to come through the way I see it. As it is. Complete in its simplicity. It is a fresh take on Madurai Sungudi, not to modernize it but to bring back the presence it once had. To give it a tempo that feels current yet rooted.
